General questions / Getting started

There's an empty box on my screen. What do I do?

1. Click on the box and type something.
2. The game has provided a contextual clue about what you should type.

What am I trying to do in this game?

1. Start by reading your inbox. (If you haven't found the inbox, see the previous question.)
2. Type inbox and then click on the Brief.
3. Try typing those codes into the box. For example, copy and paste 01-QU-1-11 into the box.
4. 04-ST-????? couldn't be found. Can you figure out what the rest of the file name is?
5. Your objective for the majority of this game is to find files to search for in the box. (There are a lot of them.)

How many files are there in this game?

1. There are 98 files in this game. When you type help you can see the number of files you've found.

How do I figure out 04-ST-??????

1. There's a pattern in the file names that you'll need to figure out.
2. Each of the filenames you've seen begins with a number part, and then two letters, and then a series of numbers. 04-ST-????? does, too.
3. You'll need to guess which numbers go in the ????? part.
4. Read 03-LI-1-4-5-6-7-8-9 closely.
5. What do the letter codes mean?
   1. What does QU mean? What does EN mean? What does LI mean?
   2. In 02-EN-1-6-7-10, Person 1 uses a word starting with "Qu."
   3. In 01-QU-1-11, Person 11 uses a word starting with "En."
   4. In 02-EN-1-6-7-10, Person 7 uses a word starting with "Li."
   5. The letter codes are locations. QU is Quail Lane. EN is the Entrance, and LI is the Living Room.
6. Now that you know what the letter codes mean, what does ST mean?
7. In 03-LI-1-4-5-6-7-8-9, Person 5 uses a word starting with "St."
8. The ST means "Study."
9. What do the numbers mean in the files you've unlocked? (In the next hint, I'll just tell you what they mean.)
10. Each file lists the numeric person IDs of the people who appear in that recording, in numeric order from lowest to highest.
11. To figure out 04-ST-?????, you'll need to figure out who was in the Study after the Living Room scene 03-LI-1-4-5-6-7-8-9.
12. In 03-LI-1-4-5-6-7-8-9, Person 5 invites Person 1 and Person 8 into the Study.

How do I solve the hangman game?

1. To submit a letter, type hangman x where x is the letter you choose.
2. Did you try all the vowels?
3. Did you try all of the most commonly used consonants?
4. You can't solve it.
